Google Doodle celebrates the iconic voice of late singer KK on his 71st Bollywood debut anniversary.

Google Doodle pays a tribute to one of the most popular playback singers of India, Krishnakumar Kunnath, known as KK, on October 25, 2024. It is a tribute to mark the 28th year of KK’s arrival to the silver screens of Bollywood, where his voice featured in the track “Chhod Aaye Hum” of the film Maachis, which was directed by Gulzar.

KK Pathway to Becoming an Icon of Bollywood

KK is remembered for his soulful voice and romantic hits which permanently implanted in Indian music. He was initially a Kirori Mal College Graduate of Delhi University, where he worked briefly in marketing. His soul lay elsewhere-the music world, where his actual profession began for him in 1994, when he submitted a demo tape that led to the recording of jingles for various brands.

KK forayed into Bollywood with the 1999 hit titled “Tadap Tadap” in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which also happens to be one of his most popular numbers. The same year, KK came out with his debut solo album Pal, which included the two smashers “Pal” and “Yaaron”. They became instant time capsules of friendship and nostalgia, enjoyed by audiences of every age group.

KK’s Success and Flexibility

During his glorious career, KK sang more than 500 songs in Hindi and more than 200 in the regional languages of Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, and Malayalam. He also sang as many as 3,500 jingles in 11 different languages, an accomplishment never beaten by any singing talent ever in the history of their career. Yet, regardless of the difference in languages and culture, KK’s voice touched all these worlds and made him a hero in the Indian music circle.

KK had an excellent contribution to Bollywood and Indian music, which earned him six nominations for Filmfare Awards as well as two Star Screen Awards. He was one of the most respected playback singers of his generation because, for many, he has the ability to bring forth the most intense emotion through his voice.

Remembering KK’s Legacy

KK passed away in June 2022 after performing live in Kolkata, leaving behind a vacuum in the hearts of millions of fans. The sudden death caused an oceanic loss to the world of music. In commemoration of the memory of this phenomenon, his final unforgettable performance was symbolized by erecting a life-like statue at Kolkata.

Now that KK has left this mortal world behind, his voice continues to stay alive in the form of his earthy music. “Tadap Tadap” and “Yaaron” are being ever-popular, and albums after albums keep celebrating through the songs of so many music lovers.
