Kozhikode becomes totally digitally literate under 'Digi Kerala' initiative.

Kozhikode has become India’s first fully digitally literate city, under a larger ambition in the form of ‘Digi Kerala’, launched by the Kerala Government. Its implementation will be another big leap forward in its aim for a country, which intends to become the first in this aspect as well, because there every single individual over 14 will feel capable of exercising basic competence in handling the smart phone and understanding media available through that tool.

Mayor Beena Philip announces in press briefing on October 23 that the project successfully completed digital literacy work across all 75 wards of Kozhikode Corporation. She says that it was the commitment and volunteers that made this happen which began with the involvement in August 2023.

Actor and named brand ambassador for the project, Asif Ali, was of great use in spreading the message about digital literacy in today’s fast-moving world. The modules provided training to a digital-skills survey conducted among 30,203 residents, and successfully passing online skill tests following the course completion allowed participants to be presented with digital progress cards as a welcome into the digital world.

The Digi Kerala initiative was initiated in 2022. The state is to become number one in the country regarding digital education. So far, it is slowly being achieved because of the success of Kozhikode. This initiative has empowered citizens to engage with technology and bridged the digital divide to easily access online services, e-governance, and digital banking.

Chelavoor ward is the first to become digitally literate in Kozhikode and is likely to be an inspiration for others. Such success will definitely provide long-term boost to the socio-economic development of the city as an environment will be created for everybody with more inclusion in the digital space.

This achievement puts Kerala at the forefront of India’s digital revolution, proving that digital literacy is key to growth in the 21st century. Such initiatives by the state only befit the efforts of making sure that technology reaches every home and thereby digitizing empowerment for the future.
