The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially announced the final result of the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024, bringing immense pride and celebration across the nation. A total of 1,009 candidates have been recommended for appointment to the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and other Group A and B Central Services. Among them, Shakti Dubey from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, emerged as the All India Rank 1 holder, inspiring lakhs of aspirants with her success.
This year, the examination witnessed participation from over 9.92 lakh candidates, and the UPSC has revealed that nearly 28% of the selected candidates are women. Notably, three out of the top five rank holders are women, including Rank 1 Shakti Dubey, Rank 2 Harshita Goyal, and Rank 4 Shah Margi Chirag. This outstanding representation of women reflects the growing gender inclusivity in India’s civil services.
The top five rankers of UPSC CSE 2024 are as follows: Shakti Dubey (Rank 1), Harshita Goyal (Rank 2), Dongre Archit Parag (Rank 3), Shah Margi Chirag (Rank 4), and Akash Garg (Rank 5). These individuals will soon begin their journey into administrative, diplomatic, and law enforcement services, playing pivotal roles in the country’s governance.
According to the UPSC’s statement, 1,129 vacancies were notified this year, out of which 180 are for IAS, 147 for IPS, and 55 for IFS, with the remaining positions allocated to various other Group A and B services. These new officers will undergo training at institutions such as the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) and other service-specific academies before assuming their official responsibilities.
The UPSC further highlighted the diversity in academic backgrounds among the toppers. The top 25 candidates opted for a wide range of optional subjects in the mains exam, including Political Science and International Relations, Anthropology, Sociology, Geography, Philosophy, Commerce and Accountancy, Public Administration, Mathematics, Physics, and Tamil Literature. This trend demonstrates the inclusivity of the examination and the fact that candidates from various academic disciplines can succeed with the right strategy.
Shakti Dubey, who topped the exam, is a graduate of Biochemistry from Allahabad University and later pursued her education at Banaras Hindu University. She began preparing for the civil services in 2018 and selected Political Science and International Relations as her optional subject. Her story of consistent effort, academic discipline, and emotional resilience has already begun to inspire a new generation of aspirants.
Many of this year’s successful candidates shared that their journey was filled with emotional highs and lows, long hours of preparation, and unwavering determination. Some were appearing for the exam for the second or third time. Their message to future aspirants is clear—success in UPSC demands a combination of smart work, mental strength, and the ability to learn from every failure.
This year’s results also shine a light on a positive shift in the civil services landscape, where more women are breaking barriers, and candidates from diverse educational backgrounds are being celebrated. The 2024 results reaffirm that the UPSC CSE is not limited to traditional streams like engineering or humanities—it’s a level playing field for anyone with dedication, focus, and the will to serve the nation.
With such remarkable stories of success, the UPSC Civil Services Result 2024 is not just a milestone in the lives of 1,009 candidates but a testament to the changing dynamics of India’s administrative structure. It emphasizes meritocracy, diversity, and equal opportunity and continues to serve as a beacon of hope for millions of aspirants across the country.
For those preparing for UPSC 2025, this result should serve as a powerful motivator. Whether you are from a science background or a humanities stream, whether it’s your first attempt or your third—your perseverance can lead you to success.
