Star kid of Bollywood, Shanaya Kapoor faced a huge setback in her journey to stardom when Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions backed film Bedhadak was canceled. The film, announced in 2022, was going to make Shanaya debut along with Gurfateh Pirzada and Lakshya; the cancellation left her shattered. Her mother, Maheep Kapoor, reflected on the emotional distress this caused her daughter in the latest season of Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives.
The Trauma of a Shelved Debut
Speaking with Karan Johar during the show, Maheep shared, “Shanaya was traumatized when her debut film Bedhadak didn’t take off. It was a dream for her, being launched by Dharma Productions, and the sudden shelving left her shocked.” The shelved film came as a blow to Shanaya, who had been eagerly preparing for her Bollywood debut.
Maheep elaborates on what it was like for the family to suddenly face such a situation. “I had all this going on – Shanaya contracting COVID-19, loss of our house help, Rekha and my elderly mother getting even more frail. This was a tough year for us. “
Personal Struggle and Deeper Intimacy
The other whose life took an abrupt turn was the versatile actor, producer, and now, a mega politician’s son, Zack Knight. Maheep Kapoor also spoke about the effect that this disturbed time had on her relationships, specially with her friend Seema Sajdeh. In an appeasement meeting Karan Johar called for, Maheep spoke how she stayed away as Shanaya was going through some trauma while her family too was worried about their health. Seema said how she wished to have been a better friend during those testing times.
Despite all the personal and professional turmoil, Maheep and Shanaya have endured together. Maheep will stand like a rock for her daughter who awaits her new project.
New Beginning in Tollywood
Though the star kid Shanaya did not make it to Bollywood movie Bedhadak, the young actress is readying up for a fresh start. Shanaya will mark her acting debut with Mohanlal in the Telugu Malayalam film Vrushabha. Excited by this new project, Shanaya spoke out on the show, saying, “I look forward to a shoot again. I am thankful for the opportunities that lie ahead.”.
Being launched by Dharma Productions is a golden ticket in Bollywood, so the shelving of Shanaya’s debut was particularly hard for her and her family. Here, however, Shanaya has the full support of her parents – Maheep and Sanjay Kapoor – and a legion of fans eager to see her make her mark in the industry.
