Veteran actor Atul Parchure, who acted in Marathi as well as Hindi films and was known for his sharp eye for the silver screen, has succumbed to a prolonged battle with liver cancer at the ripe age of 57. The actor, whose work in cinema has been fondly celebrated on both Marathi silver screens as well as Bollywood silver screens, left for the great yonder on Monday.
Atul Parchure is a familiar name for people associated with Indian cinema. He primarily works in Hindi films, undertaking comedic roles in movies such as Partner (2007), Billu (2009), and Golmaal (2006). Apart from films, he has also been part of some television hits, too, such as Comedy Nights with Kapil and Comedy Circus, which brought him great accolades for his sense of humor and wit.
Remarkable Journey in Cinema
Parchure had a career that diverged in every which way across theatre, television, and films. He has a definite niche in both the Marathi and Hindi entertainment industries. In the world of Marathi, he remains fondly remembered for his time in Kapuskondyachi Goshta and Jago Mohan Pyare. In Bollywood, he worked in the starry skies of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Govinda, cementing films like Kyon Ki (2005), Salaam-E-Ishq (2007), and Khatta Meetha (2010).
Tributes Flow In
The sudden demise of Parchure sent shockwaves of grief in the film circuit. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his feelings on the sad demise: “Atul Parchure’s death is a great loss to the Marathi film industry. His matchless acting talent has made us laugh and cry, touching the hearts of millions”.
An irreparable loss to the world of cinema and theatre, ” Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis too went on social media to condole the loss.
Death due to Cancer
Atul Parchure was struggling with cancer for the past couple of years. In a candid interview earlier this year, he spoke about his life when he was diagnosed with a 5 centimetre long tumor in his liver which made nearly all his work life come to a standstill. After fighting the disease back for a temporary period in 2023, his health continued to deteriorate. Fans and well-wishers were expecting him to return once he began filming last year; however, the cancer revisited and claimed his life.
It is a tragic end to an era for the Marathi and Hindi entertainment world as Parchure passes on. He could convey a joke as easily as a drama and was a contemporary actor who could entertain people of all ages. Just recently, he received the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar award for his contribution to Marathi theatre. “It’s one of my greatest achievements,” he said.
Atul Parchure will be remembered not only for his brilliant performance on screen, but for the resiliency and passion in his craft. His contribution to cinema and television will be in the countless characters he brought to life.
